Equipment You'll Need

Here are the items you'll need to bring with you to ASU London:

All Students

  • Geometry set 
  • Hair ties if you have long hair! 

PPE safety equipment will be provided by ASU London. We’ll give you more information on this during Welcome Week.

Computer Specification

At ASU London we use the Microsoft 365 platform extensively, so if you need to buy a new device for coursework, we recommend buying Windows 10/11 laptop. If you already have an Apple Macbook, it is ok to use it. We do not recommend Chromebooks.

An example of a minimal specification is a 13”/14″ Laptop – Intel® Core™ i5, 512 GB SSD, 8GB RAM, running 64 bit Windows 10/11. We recommend as much RAM as is affordable, but not less than 8GB.

For our engineering degrees, we use SolidWorks as our CAD software, and we offer an option of either installing it on your laptop or using it on our cloud AVD (Azure Virtual Desktop). By using our cloud server for SolidWorks, you can avoid purchasing an expensive high-memory GPU laptop.

If you wish to install Solidworks on your laptop, then this is the recommended minimum specification from Solidworks website:
  • Windows 10/11 64 bit.
  • Processor – 3.3 GHZ or higher.
  • RAM – 16GB or higher.
  • HD – 256 GB SSD or higher.
  • Graphics Card – High performance card such as Quadro RTX 3000.
  • Touch Screen
